Taking Our

STORIES

To the Halls of Power

Bulbul means "nightingale" in the majority of languages used in the lands between Gibraltar and Indonesia.

In Sufi poetry, the bulbul sings its sweet songs for the beloved it’s been separated from. The bulbul sings with unusual virtuosity to share and connect, working towards wholeness and reunion.

At Bulbul Collective we tell our stories in order to step into our authentic selves and find greater connection.

Healing Circle

If you identify as AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, South Asian) and are looking for discreet and free counseling support embedded in liberatory structures and practice, this is the place for you. When we say Muslim we mean practicing or not, embracing or traumatized, marginalized within the community or not, convert/revert or born that way.

FCNL Spring Youth
Lobby Weekend

One of our yearly programs at Bulbul Collective is the Spring Youth Lobby Weekend. Every year we team up with the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), North Texas Peace Advocates and Advocates for Youth to send between 20-30 Texas Bulbul youth (18-30 years old) to DC during Spring Break to learn how to lobby the US Congress around progressive issues that are important to the AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian) community!

Grassroots Action

Upon returning from their DC trip, energized and raring to go, the Spring Youth Lobby cohort does one-on-one outreach and research to identify an overwhelming need in the community and works to make the vision happen with support from Bulbul Collective.

Podcast Series

Here are some of the questions we tackle in our first two podcast series:

What does it mean to be Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim or South Asian (AMEMSA) in the United States? What is the value in being an identity bloc?

What is the difference between “aspiring to whiteness” and assimilation? What does anti-Blackness look like? What is racism and racialization and why do we need to talk about them?

What does it mean to be AMEMSA and LGBTQIA+ in America?

How do marginalized, Third Culture, mixed-race and mixed-religious community members manage a sense of belonging?

How can we reconnect with our ancient and rich cultures and proudly own and speak from that wisdom as Americans?
